Okemute (Mute) joined LeLaw as an Associate and Practice Manager in March 2018, thus combining client facing work and the firm’s operational responsibilities.
Mute obtained her LLB degree from Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin-City, in 2012. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in November 2014, after completing her professional training at Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus. She is a member of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and also currently a student member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) with expected qualification date of June 2019.
She interned with Messrs Tayo Oyetibo & Co in 2014. Starting with her NYSC programme in 2013, and up till September 2017, she worked as a Human Resource and Admin Manager in a leading private school group in Lekki, Lagos. Prior to LeLaw, Mute also practised briefly with a Lagos commercial law firm, gaining transactional and legal/ regulatory compliance support experience.
At LeLaw, Mute is part of the team that drives the firm’s Legal Strategy Support Services (LSS) consulting business for law firms, and is also is a member of the company secretarial services team. She has also worked on various commercial transactions such as legal opinions amongst others.
Mute’s 2012 LLB thesis at BIU was on ‘The Existing Legal Framework for Sustainable Management of the Nigerian Environment – Challenges and Prospects’.
