Ufuoma Ovesuor rejoined the Firm as an Experienced Associate in May 2022 and has a keen interest in Corporate and Commercial practice, particularly Corporate Governance, Taxation, International Arbitration, International Trade, International Energy Law and Fintech. An alumna of the reputable Queen’s College, Lagos (QC), Ufuoma graduated from the University of Ibadan in 2010 with a Second Class Upper Honours LLB, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in February 2012.She began her legal career in 2012 in a Lagos litigation firm, and proceeded to obtain her LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law from Queen Mary University of London, in 2014. Her courses at Queen Mary’s included International Construction Contracts,International Trade and Investment Disputes Settlement, International Energy Transactions as well as International Arbitration.
She is both a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK (MCIArb), and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN). She is also a Google Certified Digital Marketer, in furtherance of her interest in the tech space.Prior to LeLaw and upon her return from the UK in 2014, she worked on several landmark transactions in the corporate commercial space in Nigeria. Also, during Ufuoma’s initial sojourn at LeLaw (2016–2017), she worked on diverse advisory engagements and provided transactions support on many deals, across all business sectors. Thereafter, she has worked as both external and in-house counsel.
Her 2009 LLB Thesis was on ‘A Critical Analysis of Climate Change in Relation to Environmental Pollution (A Case Study of Nigeria)’, whilst her LLM’s was ‘Balancing the Role of Energy and its Impact on Climate Change Through Effective Regulatory Mechanisms: A Look at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Energy Charter Treaty (ECT)’.
